LG 42LH5000- 200Hz 42 inch LCD TV
July 1, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
The 42LH5000 has a smart and edgy design which allows it to fit easily in almost any living room. When it comes to moving the TV to set it at different angles, one can easily rotate it 20 degrees left or right, but the axis does not allow any up down movement.
This new LCD TV launched by LG is environment friendly. Apart from the fact that this TV consumes only 210W on daily viewing basis, there is also a physical on-off switch which has a handy easy to reach dimmable display. It even has the ability to turn off the display if one is not in the room or is busy elsewhere.
The built-in free view tuner works well when it comes to viewing movies and documentaries, but is unable to match up when it comes to news, sports, action movies or anything with fast paced graphics. But this is resolved by plugging in an external HD source. The TV has high definition picture clarity which produces sharp and crisp images with their vibrant hues apart from applying any scene-specific image process. The contrast is almost same for all the applications and only muted scenes suffer from lack of definition.
A sensor is present in front of the screen which matches the lighting system of the television to that of the ambience of the room. A sensor on the front will adjust the brightness of the display to match ambience of the room. A very neatly placed UI on the menu allows one to turn off this feature in case the viewer is bothered by too many adjustments.
One of the most important features of the 42LH5000’s is its USB port wherein one can watch movies, display pictures by plugging in a portable hard drive or flash memory stick regardless of any worries about the codec support.
The sound is good with the stereo speakers. It gives more than enough volume there is no audio-out available and hence the need for a headphone socket in case one wants to plug into a stereo. The LG 42LH5000 is available at Currys for £899.
Sony Bravia KDL-32E5500 32in LCD TV Review
June 30, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
The new Sony 32E5500 TV looks pleasing to the eyes at first go with its glossy white finish and the sharp angular lines. It does remind one of the very distinctive Apple-type design, which happens to be key rival of Sony in the mp3 player market. The only different element which stands out different from the rest is the thick black outer frame placed directly in front of the main white bezel.
The E5500 has been brought forth in the market as the ‘Picture Frame TV’ and its potential clientele base would be people in want of a ‘designer’ TV which has the multimedia functionality. Sony’s emphasis on design of the 32E5500 extends to the fact that one can even choose the color and material of the outer-most frame as per one taste to suit their home décor and the options range from Aluminium and wood alternatives to the black plastic.
The 32E5500 stands out from the rest of Sony’s current excellent range. During the tests of the model, the operating specification of the 32E5500’s is almost exactly the same as that of Sony’s 32W5500. To an extent this similarity works in favor of the W series sets which are ranked quite high in the Sony’s current TV range.
This also comes with most amazing features. The full high definition screen in spite of its relatively small screen size of just 32in carries both Sony’s latest Bravia Engine 3 video engine and Motion Flow 100Hz system. The E5500’s multimedia-friendly position brings forth all the features of W series which includes the USB port enhanced with features to display a slide show of photos, MP3 and video files and this also includes the LAN port which one can use to access files stored on a DLNA-certified PC.
The LAN port allows one to access Sony’s AppliCast online system which comes with a rather limited service that includes a calculator, RSS newsfeed access, a clock, a calendar and few stills based on nature, architecture and art themes that are available online.

The newly unveiled Philips 42PFL7403D/F7 has some very interesting features to attract customers in the market. Despite being a low cost HDTV it packs a lot of features in its set. This is a 42-inch HDTV set with USB-based multimedia capabilities. Philips HDTV is just amazing when it comes to creating a great viewing environment complete with the surround sound and the great customized feature of the remote enhances it further. But this TV fails in one of the most crucial areas defining any HDTV and that is its image quality which falls behind when compared with other HDTVs.
Due to the weak management by the HDTV in handling skin tones the image formed is dull and lifeless. Skin tones are not clearly defined and the reddish hue is present in majority thereby ruining the picture quality which is a key feature. The set has distinct problems with movements also which produces blurs and pixilation problems. The 720p video processing feature in the 42PFL7403D/F7 cuts off significant screen content from all the four corners of the screen and creates some major over scan issues.
What the 42PFL7403D/F7 lacks in image quality is what it delivers in sound quality. The sound from the in built TV speaker system is amazing. The 42PFL7403D/F7 simulates surround sound as good as any other HDTV out there in the market today.
The USB port enables the 42PFL7403D/F7 to play photo slideshows of only JPEG files and also play the MP3 audio files through any USB-based drive. It also comes with a headphone jack so that one catch watch television without disturbing others even in the middle of the night.
The 42PFL7403D/F7 has different picture modes, there is a convenient menu offering a variety of options. The Quick Access mode allows one to change the audio settings, shut off the captioning feature without even going through the complicated main menu.
The Philips 42PFL7403D/F7 is a has a decent price tag with only the poor image quality putting of the potential customers.
